This two-day institute with Jan Chappuis is based on the content of Assessment Training Institute's (ATI) book Seven Strategies of Assessment for Learning. The institute is designed to deepen participants' understanding of how assessment for learning can be woven into daily teaching activities and to prepare them to lead others in their study of these practices.

What You Will Learn:

This institute is designed to give you the tools you need to introduce formative assessment practices to others and then to manage professional development with the book Seven Strategies of Assessment for Learning as the central text.

We have three broad goals for the session:

• To deepen your understanding of high-impact formative assessment practices
• To prepare you to introduce these practices to others
• To prepare you to plan and manage learning–team-based study to implement formative assessment practices in your school or district

To accomplish those goals, we will learn how to do the following during the institute:

• Help students develop a clear vision of the intended learning
• Provide descriptive feedback effectively and efficiently
• Teach students to self-assess and set goals
• Prepare students to reflect on, track and share their learning
• Introduce the ideas to others
• Lead team-based professional development with the book Seven Strategies of Assessment for Learning

Approach:

After using various models of professional development, Pearson ATI has centered on the use of learning teams, or study groups, as the most effective and efficient way to help educators become assessment literate. We have developed all our materials (training guides, books and interactive DVDs) for this kind of adult learning and encourage educators to move beyond our tradition of seeing professional development as a series of institutes.

Fees:

Included with each registration fee, all registered institute attendees receive:
